Realistic Street Fighter?
Capcom's Street Fighter team actually had planned to change the art style that we all know and love in favor of a more realistic one, and they almost approved of it,
Thankfully, they realized it wouldn't look like a Street Fighter game without its amazing 2D feel.
On the other had Akuma successfully crossed over into Tekken 7, which has more realistic graphics yet he still looks great. So maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to see a more realistic take on Street Fighter games?
But for everything else, we could just leave it to awesome cosplayers to turn this dream into reality.
I have to say I agree that this looks so awesome!
Be sure to check out this gallery for some killer concept art! Chun Li- C is so awesome!
Speaking with GameSpark (via EventHubs), Street Fighter V producer Koichi Sugiyama said that when work began, SFV didn’t feature the brush-style exaggerated graphics the game now does. Suigyama pointed out that for SFV, Capcom used the Unreal Engine 4, which is noted for its realistic rendering capabilities.
In a way, it's rather hard to believe that we almost got a photo-realistic Street Fighter V. I wonder who are the models they used as references.
In fact, in the very early stages of development, we actually put together a build of SF5 that was rendered in photorealistic graphics. But when we did, we realized that it just wouldn't be Street Fighter without the bold, anime-esque look and feel to the game, so we decided to shelve the whole photorealism idea altogether.
Over the years there as been a lot of realistic Street Fighter fan art, most notably Chun Li - one the most popular girls from the series.
It's really interesting to read about how many artistic changes went into the process of created Street Fighter V. Hopefully in the future, they will release more of the super realistic images. I would love to see one of Cammy! Until then check out Akira's epic Cammy cosplay! You can follow her on Twitter.
Two popular cosplayers from the Nico Nico Game Party, who did a super good job and bring Street Fighter to life. No matter what direction Capcom chooses to take in the future, they will give us their all to make it challenging, fun, and memorable.
